"My dress is a gift to Oksana Marchenko for the work done" - Galina Grib

Galina, why did you decide to take part in the Design an Outfit for Oksana Marchenko contest?

Well, firstly, I am a practicing designer - I work in one of the Kyiv ateliers. Secondly, I always want to develop. And thirdly, I love the show “Ukraine Got Talent” very much, and I also admire Oksana Marchenko. I respect her as a woman and also - I really like the way she leads the program. Such people inspire me. Therefore, when my boyfriend Anton told me about the “Create an outfit for Oksana Marchenko” contest, I got acquainted with the conditions and decided to try: why not?

When submitting your work to the competition, how did you assess the chances of success?

I have already gone through many competitions. So I was not afraid of failure. Life has taught me that you should always give your best. Lucky - rejoice, but not lucky - you, at least, will have experience. And in this case, I did the same. Somehow I immediately saw Oksana Marchenko in the image of the “parade queen”. Therefore, on my sketch you can see medals for humanity, because Oksana always worries so sincerely during the performances of the participants ...

Oksana Marchenko should look like a queen in a dress. It has a bit of archaism, Ukrainian folk tradition, as well as modernized elements of the Russian bohemian costume of the 17th century. In general, this outfit creates a feeling of a holiday, because Oksana works very hard on the project - she is really a great fellow! - and I want the dress to be for her as a gift for the work done.

How long did you work on the sketch?

A sketch of this level of complexity takes me one day - this is if you do nothing else from morning to evening.

In your questionnaire, you mentioned a unique technology for creating an outfit - what does it consist of?

When developing new collections, I always rely on my own inventions and inventions. As for the dress for Oksana Marchenko, these are hand-painted gold suits - imitation of paper is made using a fabric called "two-thread". Also, at the base of the dress, you need to build a special wire frame. In general, I often use non-standard materials to create dresses - I can even skimp at a hardware store.

You've probably already seen sketches and dresses from other members - what do you think of them?

I believe that each of the winning sketches has some idea. It is very important that the outfit has depth and semantic content. Surprisingly, not all contest winners are professional fashion designers. I really respect them for their desire to create and create something beautiful. And most of all I liked Mila Sadovskaya's sketch called "De Lux". This work seemed to me conceptual and very difficult to implement.

Galina, now tell us why you decided to devote your life to fashion design?

Well, already at the age of two I didn’t let go of felt-tip pens - I really liked to draw dolls and all that. My parents noticed my craving for creativity and sent me to an art school. I also took courses in cutting and sewing in my hometown of Lubny. Then she attended the same courses in Kyiv. And, in general, since my school years, I began to hold my own fashion shows. Therefore, when it came time to decide on a future profession, I knew exactly what I wanted, and went to enter the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts, where I received two red diplomas (specialist and master) as a clothing designer. In parallel, I participated in various competitions. Step by step, I moved to work in my favorite studio ...

What clothes do you prefer yourself?

In everyday life, I dress very simply - something sporty, comfortable, practical. But going to a festive event, I try to create a bright image for myself. I am more impressed by the sense of style than the blind following of fashion. Coco Chanel once said: "Style is eternal, but fashion comes and goes."

Do you follow the fashion world?

Of course, but I think that a good designer should draw ideas and inspiration not only from magazines, but also from books, architecture, the surrounding world… He should be able to transform what he sees in his sketches. You need to be original, strive to do something of your own. At the same time, I constantly buy fashion magazines, but I treat them simply as newspapers that publish news about the work of my favorite designers.

Who are they?

I have loved John Galliano since childhood. I am also interested in the works of Alexander McQueen, Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.

Do you plan to visit the live broadcast of the show "Ukraine Got Talent"?

Yes, definitely! I want to feel the atmosphere of the show. I used to only watch it on TV. I want to see Oksana Marchenko live and how my sketch was realized. I also like Slava Frolova. In general, I will be very glad to meet all the members of the jury. And with the participants too. I am interested in people who do not sit on the couch, but are always doing something, striving to conquer new peaks ... In general, everything in life is interesting to me - I am a real hunter for impressions!
